What do I need to bring to purchase cannabis?

Recreational Customers (21+): You must present a valid, current government-issued photo ID (such as a state driver's license or passport) proving you are 21 years of age or older.

Medical Patients (18+): You must present a valid Montana Medical Marijuana Card along with your government-issued photo ID.

NOTE: Montana does not accept out-of-state medical cards. However, out-of-state visitors 21 and older are welcome to purchase from our recreational menu.
How much can I legally purchase?
Purchase limits are mandated by the state of Montana and are calculated per transaction.

Recreational Limits: Up to 1 oz of cannabis flower, OR its equivalent in other forms—8 grams of concentrate/vape carts, or 800mg of THC in edibles. You can mix and match products as long as the total transaction does not exceed these limits.

Medical Limits: Registered medical cardholders can purchase up to 5 oz per month, with a maximum daily limit of 1 oz of flower (or its equivalent).
How do cannabis taxes work in Billings?
Because Montana does not have a general state sales tax, you only pay cannabis excise and local-option taxes. In Yellowstone County, the tax rates are:

Recreational Tax: 23% total (20% State Cannabis Tax + 3% Yellowstone County Local-Option Tax).

Medical Tax: 4% total (4% State Medical Tax; Yellowstone County does not apply local-option tax to medical purchases).
Where can I consume the products I buy?
Under Montana law, cannabis consumption is strictly limited to private property/residences. It is illegal to consume cannabis in public spaces, in your vehicle, or on any federal lands (including national parks, state-funded universities, or federal campsites).
It is also illegal to consume cannabis in enclosed public spaces, including hotel rooms, as laws and regulations regarding tobacco smoke also apply to cannabis smoke.
Can I travel out of state with my purchase?
No. Crossing state lines with cannabis is a federal offense, even if you are traveling to another state where cannabis is legal. All products purchased at That One Place must be consumed within the state of Montana.
Can I cross county lines with my purchase?
Yes. While some counties (not including Yellowstone County) have restricted the sale of recreational marijuana and only allow medical sales, it is not illegal to possess cannabis within these counties as long as you are over 21 years of age.
